Shank:

This is also known as a band. The shank has an upper and lower part. At Wilson Diamonds, we make sure that this part of the ring fits your finger perfectly.

Head:

This is the part of the ring that holds the center stone in place.

Center Stone:

This is the luxurious diamond that you pick from our array of diamonds.

Shoulder:

The top two sides of the ring.

Side stones:

Smaller gems or diamonds that are on the sides of the center stone.

Prong:

These are the small metal pieces that hold the gemstone in place. Solitaire diamonds often have 4 to 6 prongs. The more prongs you have, the more secure your stone is.

Gallery:

This is the back part of the ring that fits over the top of the finger. Rings with large stones often have a larger gallery so there is more room between your finger and the stone.

Girdle:

The edge or narrow band between the upper and lower facets of your diamond.

Hallmark:

The small print on the ring that identified the precious metal and grade.
